2050, a bungalow stands,
An old man sits alone
The TV has played all it has to give,
He decides to pick up the phone.
“Hello son, how are you?
You wife, the kids…’just wanted to know”
“Sorry dad, I’d love to talk,
But hockey, swimming…, I’ve really got to go”
“I understand…life is busy”
He wipes a tear from his eye.
“Love you son, hugs to all!”
He hangs up and looks to the sky.
“Dear God”, he prayed “remember when,
You made the world stop for a while?
You held us close and said “Be still”
And with this he began to smile.
The memories of 2020,
The year he learned to love.
The preciousness of family,
A gift from above.
He learned that he was not too busy
To spend time with his son.
His work and chores he put aside,
Bad habits overcome.
They played, watched movies and ate together,
Laughed ‘til their sides split.
The constant rushing from here to there,
He didn’t miss a bit.
Sunday morning family gathered,
In the living room to pray.
They listened to the Pastor,
Teaching them God’s way
COVID-19 was conquered,
And life resumed its’ pace.
Some forgot the lessons learned,
And resumed the frantic race.
He hoped he’d planted a seed,
Love into his family he’d poured.
He prayed they’d always remember,
To be still and know the Lord
And as the memory faded,
And reality crept back in.
There came a friendly knock at the door,
Familiar voices brought a grin!
“Hey dad! How are you? We came for dinner.
Hi Grandpa I missed you a lot!”
He thanked the Lord for 2020
And learned what time spent had bought.
