One Life—Live it Well!

However cliché it may appear; the start of a new decade offers us the opportunity for a fresh start. For new rhythms which will define the thoughts, actions, and people we become.

We get one chance at life!  You’ve probably heard about the 25,500 number as it relates to our lifespan?  It seems like such a large number, but it’s really not!  If God permits us to live to see our 70th birthday, we will have lived for 25,500 days.

Our 24-hour days tend to blur together, and they quickly become weeks!  Weeks merge together and become months…and before we know it—another year has passed…and we soon begin another one!  Well, here we are, at the beginning of 2020—a new year, and a new decade!

With every new year comes new opportunities—fresh starts and new beginnings!  As we get older, we make friends with the idea that we may have more years behind us than in front of us.  We may be past the 12,751 point.  However cliché it may appear; the start of a new decade offers us the opportunity for a fresh start. For new rhythms which will define the thoughts, actions, and people we become. There is always opportunity for life-defining change but stepping into the next year seems like a perfect call to determine what we are going to leave behind and carry into the next decade.

Scripture teaches, “Our life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone” (James 4:14).  The early morning mist settles on the grass, the sun rises, and the mist is gone—the fog lifts.  This is a metaphor for your life.  Suddenly we’re here, and then suddenly we’re gone!

Our first blog for 2020 is not intended to be a downer, but a simple call to make the most of our one and only life.  In fact, each Sunday morning in January, we’re exploring how we can ‘make the most of our one and only life.’  We get one body and we should care for it!  We have been blessed with special people to share our life with and we should love them well.  We are given one mind, and limited finances—we should do our best to manage them wisely.  Failure is a certainty in the year ahead—but how we bounce back is our choice!

Psalm 90:12 says; “Teach us to number our days, that we might gain a heart of wisdom.”  A heart filled with wisdom recognizes that our days are limited. A healthy sense of urgency about our days keeps us alert to all of the opportunities afforded us.

25,500 days seems like such a large number—but it moves quickly! How can you be faithful with the days remaining openbefore you? How you live the moments in front of you define the pace you move at for the next thousand.

Let’s make the most of our one and only life—together!
