We are committed to serving our local community and being involved in the lives of our neighbours. Here are just a few of the ways we’ve spread grace throughout our community.
Thanksgiving in a Box
Each year, we partner with Mary Street Community School to provide all of the ingredients for a complete turkey dinner. 40 families from our church take a grocery list and fill a box with groceries (including a frozen turkey). Then, we deliver the full boxes to families-in-need to help them enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.
Starving Hunger Food Campaign
During the Thanksgiving season, our church family fills 150 reusable grocery bags with nonperishable food items. We are able to partner with Feed the Need Durham to provide families with the resources they need.
Merry Christmas, Durham!
This is how we wish our community a very Merry Christmas while celebrating the season: on the first Saturday of December we rent the Cineplex Odeon Movie Theaters at Taunton and Grandview and invite the people of the Durham Region to come and watch one of five family-friendly movies. We provide hot Starbucks and Tim Hortons coffee, advent calendars for the first 200 children, and other prizes.
$1 Car Wash
At the start of summer, we surprise our community with a $1 car wash. This is our opportunity as a church family to serve people by washing their cars, while they get a hot dog, watermelon, and popsicle. Along with a sparkling, clean car we’re able to surprise each driver with a loonie to let them know that we wanted to brighten their day! This is a great chance to surprise people with grace!
Cornerstone Meals – Church in the City
Cornerstone meals is a part of Church in the City downtown Toronto, and they are one of our local partners. Every Saturday night, with two churches partnering together, Cornerstone serves a hot meal to almost 400 people. This is a practical and tangible way to care for those whom Jesus loves. We have been scheduled to serve four times in 2017 – April 15, July 8, September 30 and December 16. We will be taking teams of 15-20 people down to help serve from 2:30 pm(leaving KSCC) until 8:30 pm (arriving back at KSCC).
